Weebles

If you are as old as me then you probably remember the song that went with these toys. “Weebles wobble, but they don’t fall down” And really that was the basis of these toys, as they were designed to spin and wobble to a huge lean, but not to fall over.

They actually date back to 1971, and were sort of egg shaped characters and very colourfully painted up to make the younger amongst us really love them. For some reason in the 1970s we could put our Weebles into a haunted House or the Circus, and even into a Western theme. It was great as you could always introduce a new character to your play, by simply going to the shop and pester dad to buy another one.

Things were so much simpler then. Hasbro made them, and have a lot to answer for. But although I never played with the things, I still have that theme playing in my head nearly 40 years later. “Weebles wobble, but they don’t fall down”.

70s Toys & Games

Remember the old retro toys you used to play with? Did you bounce about on spacehoppers, play pong or ride around on your cool Chopper? Can you recall the heroes Twirling Tim and Hurricane Hank, and who they used to do battle with in the arena? Did you used to come home from school with bruised knuckles from trying to beat 100 clacks on your Klackers? Or was you the studious type carefully making lovely patterns with your Spirograph which, no matter how careful you were, always seemed to cut through the paper turning your masterpiece into a mess.
