This was so high tech when it first came out, and reminded me of the spaceship from the film Close Encounters Of A Third Kind. It was a saucer shaped unit, with several segmented colours on the top. These colours were linked to a corresponding sound, and the idea of the game was that Simon would play a selection of colours and tunes, and you and your friends had to copy it 100 percent. Failure to do so will give you a death buzz, and you have to start all over again.
The way to copy was to press the colour when it was your turn, this will give the sound, and the next person has to play the first note. This was a bundle of fun, it really was. I remember spending hours in the 70s with kids and grown -ups trying to go as far as we could, it was always very important NOT to be the one that made the mistake.
The segmented colours to hit were Red, Yellow, Blue and Green. Nothing complicated like today’s computer games, but guys believe me it was such fun in those days.
“Simon’s a computer, Simon has a brain, you either do what Simon says or else go down the drain.”
