Rennie's News and Views

If you're looking to keep up at what's going on with Escape or just interested in the 70s then you may just like to read my writings here. I'll be reporting on any 70s news that's happening around the world and also keeping you abreast of anything happening onsite.

Growing Up in the 70s

I'm very lucky to have so many friends that love the 70s and some that have shared their memories with us. It's interesting to see there was little difference between the USA and UK but from reading these stories one thing does come through, technology. It seems to all the people lived through the 70s the technology of today seems to have taken the personal, community spirit out of life.

Diaries of a Teenager

Growing up in the 70s certainly wasn't an easy ride especially if you're hormonal 12 3/4 year old girl from Essex. Copied directly from her diaries Smurfette has very kindly decided to share her daily jottings from her growing up years with us. Read all about her crushes and schooldays, boyfriends and favourite groups, boyfriends and tv shows oh did I mention she was boy mad?

The Cows Gate Gang

Dexter is a great writer who's humorous characters soon got me laughing . He's more known for his writings for the "Waterlog" a specialist angling magazine but he's done up proud by writing these adventures for all of us to read. He's currently in the wilds of France, far away from the rat race with just his girl friend, his laptop and his fishing rods and yes I'm quite envious of his lifestyle.

70s Community

If you want to join in and share your memories of the 70s or just want to read through them at your leisure then just come along and join our 70s community. You'll be most welcome.

70s Films

A tour through the great and not so great films of the seventies The seventies saw a huge change in styles and genres from the advent of the slasher horror movies like Halloween and the blockbuster summers films started by Jaws.

70s Television

What an amazing piece of kit our telly was. Can you imagine having to change channel by turning a knob to tune in BB2 and forever getting up to realign the aerial and contrast, and the only way to stop the picture from rolling was to give the set a good thump? Do you remember that we only have three channels to watch? Thinking about it, the conversation was better at school next day as everyone seemed to be watching the same thing unlike nowadays where we have too much choice.

Retro Games

Remember playing Asteroids and invaders at the pub ? Relive those lazy 70s days on this very site! Just don't blame us for the hours you'll lose!

Escape To The Seventies

Memories are strange things. You rarely recall bad times only the good and it is these memories that I hope to bring back to you with this site. We have tons of information on 70s films, sweets, 70's toys and the best 70s music library on the web, but that's not the whole story. In this hi-tech internet driven world I hope to provide you with a gateway to a world of good memories for at least a few minutes of stress free time right at your desk and hopefully those minutes will stretch into an hour or two. 70s Toys

Remember the old retro toys you used to play with? Did you bounce about on spacehoppers, play pong or ride around on your cool Chopper? Can you recall the heroes Twirling Tim and Hurricane Hank, and who they used to do battle with in the arena? Did you used to come home from school with bruised knuckles from trying to beat 100 clacks on your Klackers? Or was you the studious type carefully making lovely patterns with your Spirograph which, no matter how careful you were, always seemed to cut through the paper turning your masterpiece into a mess.

70s Sweets & Candy

If you had to describe sweets from the 70s one word you would not use is boring. The seventies produced some of the wackiest ideas for confectionary you have ever known. From candy that explodes in your mouth to popcorn type sweets called HankyPanky, a selection of chocolates in a bar and coconut flavoured strands of chewy sugar wrapped in a tobacco type pouch called Spanish Gold.

70s Fashion

I loved the fashions of the seventies, why you ask? Was it the colours of the fabrics? No? Or maybe it was the cool flowing styles? Maybe. Or possibly it was that I am a little restricted in the height department and that those platform shoes were a heaven sent present from the Fashion Gods.
