Buttersnap

I just remember this, I think it was the start of the decade, but it is so hard to bring it to the top of the memory. If I recall correctly this was a very thin layer of brittle caramel and butter. I seem to remember it was a red packaging. Can you remember more on this, and help fill my gap in my sweet knowledge of the 1970’s?

I did find this, it came from a TV commercial, I hope this will make us all bring it to a collective memory.

Man at the kiosk cannot remember the name of what he wants, says things like “it’s a … er …. snappy, snappy taste” to the bewildered kiosk lady; cue a schoolboy swiftly into view “Butter Snap, please, thanks!” and out again, and the chap remembers too late as the kiosk lady pulls down the shutter

Voice-over: Sharp’s Butter Snap, a name to remember!

A name to remember, but even the trademark seems to have expired now, and it seems that it is all in an alternative universe. Did it really exist?.

70s Retro Sweets

If you had to describe sweets from the 70s one word you would not use is boring. The seventies produced some of the wackiest ideas for confectionary you have ever known. From candy that explodes in your mouth to popcorn type sweets called HankyPanky, a selection of chocolates in a bar and coconut flavoured strands of chewy sugar wrapped in a tobacco type pouch called Spanish Gold.
