Aelf – Seeing those on here really brought the days of bruised knuckles. Why did we carry on playing with them when they hurt so much???
Rennie – Just been looking at my site stats and beleive it or not people are still searching for them on the net.
Rennie – try playing with wooden ones your dad made for you!!
James Blast – the attraction of them, like Deely Boppers happily passed me by
Glittergal – Always wanted some but wasnt allowed
Jack Regan – I think I got a pair in the summer of 72 when I was on holiday in Whitley Bay. Thats funny because I was thinking of 70’s games today and we discussing British Bulldog.
Awombleforever – Whitley Bay a seaside from my youth ,only went for day visits though as never had holidays ,we were too poor.Hard boiled eggs with sand on ,a memory for me.
Spanish city a favorite and a real treat. Also went ice skating at Whitley Bay a few times.
SoulSister – I loved my Klackers!…oh the long hot summer days when all through the neighbourhood you would hear the dulcit tones of these. And the kids coming into school with injuries to their wrists- im sure thats how i got my arthritic hands and wrists!!!lol!!! Hi- I was born in 1962, which means that i seemed to live a big chunk of my life through the seventies, and have loads of memories. At the time the era didnt seem unusual but when i look back, i realise that it was a great time!
Hattie – My claim to fame is winning a clacker competition back in the seventies.
It was held to promote the start of a local newspaper, the advertiser I think. It is still going strong and yes think clackers come back every now and again too. My mum still has the picture, it was on the front of the paper!
SoulSister – Hi Hattie- It didnt take a lot to amuse us in those days did it?? I loved the Klackers, and us girls used to play Chinese Skipping with a bit of elastic. And of course the skipping ropes, roller skates, handstands up the wall, but something i always wanted and NEVER GOT- was a Stylophone!!! My mum didnt seem too concerned about my yearnings- i got what she could afford-now kids get what they want most of the time it seems.
SoulSister – Oh i also remember us all playing Jacks,[5 stones],you used to get the little packs with a little red ball in- we used to throw those balls away and buy good Super Balls!! Also Cats Cradle which i have taught my kids in the past, and their friends! and they seemed quite mystified at my accomplishment!!
Tania – Were Klackers still around in 1973?
I have a vague memory of them being banned because some of them had ‘exploded’ in children’s faces. Don’t think I ever had any of the originals, my children did have plastic versions when they were younger – not with the string but with plastic ‘arms’ – I could actually work those ones!
Awombleforever – I had a pair that were very Glass like, maybe they were the ones that Shattered.
I think by 73 they were well finished.Or maybe I grew out of them.
