70’s Party Records

Rennie – When I wrote my 70s party guide I listed quite a few records which I personally love and would be on my okay list. So I thought I’d ask you your top 20 tracks that you would play at a 70s party.

James Blast – my party would last days at least, it’d be 90% album tracks starting with Genesis ~ Live in its entirety

Rennie – *laughing* well I suppose that’s one kind of party.
I was thinking more of the old kneees up kinda party.
Although Follow you follow me would probably be on my list for the early part of the night, brings back some good memories that track does.

David – I don’t suppose James gets that many people at his parties (with that choice of music), Rennie. Either that or they all leave early to come to ours where we play…….

YMCA – Village People
Tiger Feet – Mud
Some Quo so we can all do ‘that’ dance.
Your the First….. Barry White
Staying Alive – Bee Gees
Dancing Queen – Abba
Ballroom Blitz – The Sweet
Come On Feel The Noize – Slade
Get It On – T Rex
Metal Guru – T Rex
Hang On In There Baby – Johny Bristol
Get Dancing – Disco Tex

My Coocachoo – Alvin Stardust
Can The Can – Suzi Quatro
You Sexy Thing – Hot Chocolate

And finally – Love to Love You Baby by Donna Summer (for that slooooow dance – so watch out girls….)!

We’ll probably need a lie down after that lot……. Laters – David

Glam-Rockett – Well David it seems like you have pinched half my records so maybe we should have a joint party and pull together all our resources. Don’t forget I have the juke box to play them on, so here goes;

Teenage rampage – Sweet
See my baby jive – Wizzard
Feels like im in love – Tina Charles

Get your hankies out as last but not least for that slow sexy dance i would choose
Lonely girl – Eddie Holman

What a great party that will be Glam xx

David – Hi Glam, With our combination of tunes and your juke box the party would really rock.
I’d invite James but he’d only bring his bloody Genesis LP – ZZZZZZZZZ!
What should we wear? Laters David xx

James Blast – I wasn’t finished…
Larks’ Tongues in Aspic ~ King Crimson
come as you are, I wouldn’t be caught drunk at your party too many memories of bad 70s discotheques at the local rugby club and Burnside hotel are flashing through ma heid

David – Okay, James,
We might let you play that – once! That’s assuming it’s a single and not an LP – I’ve never heard of it……
I’ll be wearing my Starsky and Hutch cardigan, baggy brutus trousers, purple shirt with pear-drop collar, platform shoes (from FHW) and about a pint of Brut. I’m warning you now – I’ll be deadly.
I’ll be bringing a Party Seven, and a Babysham 4-pack for the girls. – Laters – David

Glam-Rockett – Wow David you will have all the girls after you dressed like that, I never could resist a guy smelling of Brut. May have to bring some Brandy to go with the Babysham though.

I will be wearing my multi coloured striped flares, equally colourful top, gold platform shoes, and of course my silver spikey wig. So Glam is all ready for partying – Glam xxx

David – Brandy and Babysham – you’re a real cool chick, Glam.
I remember drinking Southern Comfort aged 17 in a pub. Couldn’t stand the taste then but thought it was cool to drink it. I like it now though!! David

Glam-Rockett – Hi David , You started late then, I can remember drinking Vodka and Lime in a pub when I was 15. If I was feeling really sophisticated I would have a Port and Lemon lol.
Of course nowadays me and Jack Daniels are the best of friends.
Glam xxx

There would may have been others but they were either side of the 70s ,so had to choose.
These tracks would keep me rockin all night

Bolan-ette – Ok Womble when’s the party
What a great list, I couldn’t have chosen better myself, and you have my 3 favourites listed at the top. I can’t think of any to list at the moment, as you said there are many more great rock tracks but not in the 70’s Keep on rockin

Awombleforever – Thanks bolan-ette, now you know why our disco’s were so popular.

Bolan-ette – Hi Womble, I’ve had a think and have come up with these 70’s Rock songs for our party

Smoke on the water – Deep Purple
Bad case of loving you (Doctor Doctor) – Robert Palmer
Don’t bring me down – ELO
All right now – Free
Stuck in the middle with you – Stealers Wheel
All the young dudes – Mott the Hoople
You ain’t seen nothing yet – Bachman Turner Overdrive
The boys are back in town – Thin Lizzy
School’s out – Alice Cooper
Elected – Alice Cooper
Let there be rock – AC/DC
Radar Love – Golden Earring

Goldencup – Those last two selections sound great – much as as I love the Butlins 70s weekends, they do focus too much on the disco era for my liking and I’d much rather go a more rock-orientated event.

David – Good list, Bolan-ette,
Really like All The Young Dudes – guitar riff to die for. Elected is great too.
Only problem with Stuck In The Middle With You is that I think someone’s about to cut my ear off. Those that have seen Res Dogs will know what I mean! Laters – David

Glam-Rockett – I know what you mean David
That was a great film and as you say the song will always be a reminder of that famous scene, but never the less it is a good list too. This party will rock thats for sure!!!!!!!!!!!! Glam xxx

Bolan-ette – “David wrote:Good list, Bolan-ette,

Thanks David
I don’t think I’ve seen that film – sounds a bit gruesome for my liking, I still love that song though, it brings back great memories from my daughter’s wedding last year ”

David – It was an excellent film, Bolan-ette. Although possibly the most bloody film I’ve seen, it worked though and was actually funny in places.

If you had seen it, I doubt you’d have played the track at your daughters wedding – not with all those people in suits about……. If you ever get to see it – you’ll see what I mean.

Tanktop, Some inspired choices (Little Willy, Touch Too Much and Coz I Luv You). Are you allowed to count three Mud records as one?

Laters – David

Rennie – Some great tracks there I must admit and it’s good to see so many variations.
One thing I did notice was the absense of any David Essex
Gonna make you a star or Hold me Close would be a deffo for me and Rock on still sounds cool to this very day.

Awombleforever – Hi Tank my faves from yours would be
Tell Him,of course, Mud ,all of them , Brownsville station and Guy Darrell, that’s one Iv’e played a few times myself at disco’s,was my sisters fave.

Tanktop – Cheers Womble, had to put Tell him in as I remember dancing at Butlins with a certain lady to it lol x
