Favorite Christmas Song ………

Hattie – I know Crimbo is a bit of a way off but what is your favorite ……

Rennie – Got to be Greg Lake’s *I believe in father Christmas* very closely followed by Wizard’s offering..

Imp – Has to be Slade there is no other Christmas song!!!

Awombleforever – I wish it could be Christmas everyday, trouble is I’b be sick of turkey

James Blast – gotta be an album that reminds me…
Jethro Tull – Bursting Out and Magazine – Real Life
then again, I remember biting a maidens bum to the strains of Mike Oldfarts take on In Dulce Jubilo
strange days indeed Donald*

*that’s a line from a British film, BTW

Nix – Anything by Ray Conniff (and his singers). Also The New Christy Minstrels’ take on “We Need A Little Christmas”. Why such odd, retro (like ’65, ’67) choices? Somewhere along the line during my infancy my parents acquired a Christmas album that was a giveaway–something cooked up between Goodyear Tires and Columbia Records. It was a compilation album of various artists–Streisand before she became insufferable, Steve-n-Eydie, Mahalia Jackson, etc. I remember the cover vividly. Red–Christmas Red. With a paper reindeer on it, and the artists’ photos running down either side. I’m always on the look-out for it.

Karen – Wow, only one song for me – Roys’s – WIZARD,
‘ oh I wish it could be christmas every day……’

James Blast – WIZZARD, they had that extra Z, ye see

Karen – oh no James, dearie meeee ……………

W I Z Z A R D ……….. loved his beard …..is your beard like that James?

James Blast – Karen wrote:is your beard like that James? – No

Goldencup – i’m with Imp – Slade’s has to be the ultimate Christmas song! I remember that December of 1974 (I think) we took a portable record player into school and played it over and over again driving all the teachers mad!

Tanktop – Yep Slade is the catchy sing a long song which I know will go down at the restaurant well this christmas, 11.55 last record people Mud was my favourite with Lonely this christmas but being alone I find it harder to listen to. white christmas/Merry christmas everyone by shaky, Wizzard, Brenda Lee rockin around the christmas tree, Etc, etc, etc,

James Blast – OK, I’m usually in a club of 1, so here I go again…
Slade’s So Here it is…. depressed me from the first time I heard it.
The descant organ chord at the start. Hardly redolent of ‘let us now have fun’. To this day it brings me down. Ban It! say I

Tanktop – That’s it James be your usual happy go lucky self, go buy Ken Dodds record Happiness suits you

James Blast – think of the chorus and the vocal phrasing on Doddy’s song

Hattie – forgot to add mine ………wizzard has to be one of them ……slade too …….to be honest there aint any i dont like ……lol coz its christmas …..well soon xx

Rockerator – Slade for me also.

awombleforever – 12 inch version, you got this one Tank?

Rennie – lol now that’s a cool cover Womble

awombleforever – Hey iv’e just been dancing to it in my front room, hope no one can hear or see me Its not as good as the original though. Now playing the other side, see my baby jive and Forever brilliant,I’d forgotton how great these tracks are.Anyone for Hockey

awombleforever – Forever ,very underestimated I think, one of my faves. Roy wood was so good,I’m a poet and I didn’t know it And no I haven’t been drinking

Rennie – Yes I remember Forever and agree was a good track. My Bro used to play it

awombleforever – I’ve just found a site about Roy Wood and it had the top 50 tracks of everything he has done and Forever came in at no. 4 and Rock and Roll Winter another favorite of mine no.2 so there you go .No.1 and 3 I don’t remember them but these are tracks from Roy over the years and he had Many. I think these figures are chosen by fans of his.

Rocksgirl – Rennie wrote:Got to be Greg Lake’s *I believe in father Christmas * very closely followed by Wizard’s offering..

i know Xmas is long gone but wanted to agree with Rennie. I’ve loved Greg Lake’s I believe.. since i was 5 yrs old. Heard it on xmas morning after being shoved back to bed by the parents at 5am.. wonder why? lol Had an old red tranny radio and turned it on and that was playing. Xmas aint Xmas until i’ve heard that!!!! Roll on Xmas 2006… er… scrap that… still paying for xmas 2005! lol

2Tone – It’s November so the christmas songs have been resurrected already. The best presents anyone can give me this year is-
– A NEW ‘classic’ christmas song.
– To Stop Cliff Richard from releasing a seasonal tune.
– Ban the X factor winner from releasing a single until the new year..no just ban it forever.

Am I in a good mood or what! Bah Humbug..

Rennie – *laughing* you’re gonna be in a worse mood at Butlins when I tap you up for a drink!!

Johnny7andChadValli – Slade must win it hands down but don’t disregard Wombling Merry Christmas and The Goodies ” Make a daft noise for christmas” Ho Ho Ho – Johnny7

Rennie – Their best one was Father Christmas do not touch me!!

Kevin1 – My best christmas record in the seventies was Slade, merry christmas everyone

Sladegirlie – The greatest ever Christmas song……SLADE
Second has to be Step Into Christmas by Elton John.

Rennie – not at all biased there Slade Girlie??? Yes Elton Johns a cool one too.

Sladegirlie – Me biased? Never!!!

Johnny7andChadValli – WHOA!!! HOLD ON THERE.
YOU’VE ALL MISSED THE BEST, WHICH IS, (wait for it) CHRISTMAS BOP by T.REX 1975, re-released 1983. Classic Bolan at his best.

Rennie – I certainly have missed that one….gonna have to track that one down

Awombleforever – Lets not forget this one .I know a lot of you want to and the reasons why but this one of Deans favorites so here goes I know it’s not 70s but sorry I had to put it in .
Also apoligise if I offend anyone but you can’t get away from the fact it’s a great xmas record.
Any comments please keep them about the music ,thanks.

Rennie – I agree with you Womble. His music will always be a big part of the 70s for me and I feel that he has now tainted those good memories but it’s up to us remember the music for what it meant to us and not let his actions spoil our memories.

Slayed – Hi Sladegirlie and Kevin Good Choice with the Chrimbo Song!! That would be top of my list too, but I have to say that David Bowie and Bing Crosby would be my second choice – Little Drummer Boy.

My third would be Sting singing Gabriel’s Message. It holds a lot of good memories for me and some sad ones too!! My friend Beverly had to sing Gabriel’s Message as a Solo when we did our very last Nativity play together. That was 1971. We were both part of our Junior Comprehensive Shool Choir in South Wales. I was always picked to play the Virgin Mary in every school I attended, probably because I was tiny and had very long, thick light brown/blonde hair and a clear speaking voice. Our RE Tutor always sought me out to do at least three Assemblies a week (Bible Reading).

I was glad when we moved up to the Senior Comp as we only had Assembly on Mondays and Nativity Plays became a thing of the past!! – Luv Anita xxx

Kevin1 – Hi slayed i like the david bowie one but the other i have never heard off. I was in the scholl choir at rysworth middle school in bingley and alway had to sing once in royal davids city by myself, and was embarassed every time i sang it.

Johnny7andChadValli – Although Showaddywaddy’s Hey Mr Christmas (1974) is up there in my top 2!

Glittergal – Wizzard, and Elton John, Step Into Christmas

Glittergal – oh and Simply Having A wonderful Christmas Time, Paul McCartney and Wings

RockinRodwell – My vote goes to Slade – course I’m biased
