Costume parties are really making a comeback lately. Everyone seems to enjoy taking a break from reality, throwing on an outfit that is completely out of character, and dancing the night away with good friends. If you have been invited to one of these parties, you may have noticed that there is often a theme. A vampire ball might require some sort of gothic garb, while a disco dance will obviously call for a 70s fancy dress; but where will you find this type of outfit?
If you are looking for gothic themed clothing, you are in luck. Even the local stores are carrying costumes that fit the bill, thanks to some recent vampire flicks that have taken the world by storm. Whether you decide to wear something black, lacy or glittery, you will be able to adapt an outfit to go with this theme. A little white powder on the face, along with smoky eyes and red lips completes the look. If the event is retro..Well, this type of outfit just will not work. You have to find the perfect 70s fancy dress.
The nineteen seventies were filled with music, intense colors, sequins and disco balls. The brighter it was, the better. If it had a combination of glitter and spandex, it was perfect. Bright and shiny seemed to stand out above all else as a common theme. The perfect 70s fancy dress would have been something that was form fitting on top, had lots of sparkles and possibly even came in gold. This is going to be a little harder to find than vampire themed attire, but it is absolutely feasible. Do not bother to check locally as you will most likely be wasting your time. The best place to look for something as unique as a 70s fancy dress is online. In your quest, you will find many styles. Personal preference can aid in your decision. Once you have decided on the perfect outfit, you need to think about your hair. The iconic Farrah Fawcett feathered hair was the “do” de jour in that era. Make up was feminine and shimmery, never too heavy handed; that did not come into play until the eighties.
Whatever type of costume party you are going to, be sure to have fun with it. Too often, people take these events too seriously. This is not a company meeting, this is supposed to be a time for you to let loose, relax and enjoy yourself. Forget about keeping up appearances for one night and just let yourself get into the groove. Do not let nagging doubts creep into your head; many people think they will be the only ones who show up in costume, but typically, everyone does get dressed up (yes, even in that gold and shimmery 70s fancy dress). In fact, it is the odd couple who chooses not to come in costume that inevitably winds up feeling out of place. You will find that these costume parties can be an absolute blast if you just give in to you inhibitions and take pleasure in the night.
