“Just wondering if the kids today play conkers? I was always up the tree in the autumn shaking those conkers off the branches and onto my mate below.

We used to slowly bake them in the boiler cupboard and make ethem rock hard.

My record was a 1162’r ”

I was in Somerset a few years ago and I actually saw a few kids playing conkers in the playground and all of them were having a great time. I was so happy that some of the simple games still survive.
I was shocked to read in the local paper that it was a one off celebration of old school games. Most of the kids asked said they saw no fun in at all and it was silly!

Oh well let them play with their Androids- but it is not the same.

that is very sad, i was pleased to see on telly the other day a programme about a Brit in France who organises a world Conkers championship. Keeping the old tradition alive so kudos to him.
