The economical four-cylinder version of Ford’s big saloon was much improved by replacement of the V4 engine with an overhead camshaft in-line four. A 2.5-litre V6 is an alternative where higher performance is required. The same choice of power units is available on the big roomy station wagon and the Consul GT has a 3- litre engine. Only Britain makes Consuls. Germany concentrating on Granadas.
