Confession Time – David Essex

David – I have a terrible confession to make………..
I find myself actually liking David Essex stuff. Now, that’s something of a confession for a bloke to make – imagine if I’d said that at school in the 70s – I’d probably have got my head kicked in!

But, think about it………

Lamplight
Rock on (one of the best base-lines ever)
America (Ameri ca ca ca ca ca ah ha ha…..)
Stardust
Hold Me Close
Rolling Stone
Gonna Make You a Star

I know he went a bit naff in the 80s, but his 70s output was actually very good.
I might even buy his greatest hits CD – Don’t tell anyone!
Laters – David.

Hattie – They r cool songs lol to be honest david essex has done brill stuff xx hattie xx

David – Okay. I’ve gone and done it.

I’ve gone into HMV at Piccadally Circus and purchased David Essex’s greatest hits. I looked around to make sure nobody was watching. I selected it from the rack and walked quickly to the counter. I think the guy serving me gave me a funny look. He said “”Do you want a bag?””. Bloody right I wanted a bag! Did he really think I was going to walk through the streets with a David Essex CD for all to see. Suppose I bumped into someone I knew. Imagine the ridicule!

Anyway, I’ve got it home and it’s brilliant. Rock on and Lamplight bring those 70s memories flooding back. David Essex doesn’t get played much on the radio nowadays so when you do hear them they really take you back. Rolling Stone, Stardust and America sound absolutely superb.

Just thought I’d share that with you. Don’t tell anyone will you.

Oh, and a Happy New Year to everyone.

David

Glam-Rockett – Well David that is a very brave confession to make, sure you havent got any more like that. I used to love Dave Essex and thought he was so sexy, I had loads of posters of him on my wall.

Glam xxxx

David – Well Glam, I may have a further confession to make in a few days. I’m thinking of buying an Alvin Stardust CD! Again, this is one that a boy couldn’t really be seen with in the seventies – Slade, TRex, Bowie, Mott, Sweet – they were all okay. But David Essex and Alvin Stardust weren’t really cool at my school. My Cocachoo, Jealous Mind and especially Red Dress are all great tunes and I think the time is right – HMV here I come.

Don’t tell anyone! David XXX

Awombleforever – We saw Alvin at Butlins and he still sounds great ,doesn’t look any older neither. We got the autographed pic and a badge that Hattie gave me autographed too. I always liked his music.
David Essex too. He had a naughty boy smile.Smiles always do it for me,David Cassidys just lights the room up.

David – Hi Glam, Womble and Hattie,
I’ve decided against the Alvin CD – I really only want three tracks (CooCaChoo, Jealous Mind and Red Dress) so I’ll get them on itunes.

However, I have an even more embarrassing purchase to make. This one will have to be made after dark. I shall probably wear a disguise (and I’ll ask for it in a plain brown paper bag).

I’ve only two words to say – Gilbert O’Sullivan.
They probably only keep them under the counter!
But think about it – Nothing Rhymes, Alone Again (Naturally), Get Down – he did some good stuff.
As before, don’t tell anyone! David.

Rennie – Hi David
I have always liked David Essex and from where I come from he was a bit of a hero and was well thought of by the guys.
Now Gilbert O Sullivan was a star and such a good song writer. Alone again naturally is a classic in my eyes and Matrimony is such a fun number. You’ll enjoy that purchase matey.

Lullabelle – Well it sounds to me like you’ve got pretty good taste in music! ‘Nothing Rhymes’ is a beautiful song, one of my favs from the 70s. And ‘No matter how I try’ is a great tune. I agree, Gilbert O’Sullivan is a good song writer.

Rennie – I think James may have a different view

James Blast – G O’S could write a good lyric now and again

I started building Escape in 2005 and in it’s early form I had the pleasure of a great 70s community. Sadly with Escape’s new design we couldn’t incorporate the old threads into the new forum but so we don’t lose all those magical old chats we’ve collected them all here for you to go back and read.
