Blythe & Other Dolls

Sladegirlie – My mum bought me a doll called Blythe. Huge head on a small body and when you pulled the string her eyes changed colour. I really hated it and my poor ol mum was mortified bless her. I loved my Tressy doll with hair that really grows. You shouldn’t tell a kid that….I believed it and chopped the long bit off and dutifully waited for it to grow. I had Action girl, with long ginger hair and a green jump suit. I didn’t like her either coz she had huge jointed knees. Daisy doll by Mary Quant was very pretty until the scissors also got to her beautiful wavy hair. My weekend Sindy was fab with Jeans and a red white and blue stripey top. I had a Patch doll dressed as a Brownie, and a red indian doll that I opened whilst still on the bus and I lost her little shoes. I’m still a wreck over that! I remember desperately wanting a Tiny Tears but being too small to hold it so I eventually got a Teeny Tiny Tears and shoved a sultana in her gob! Wonder why I remember that! Do you remember the long legged dolls they sold in Woolies with a hard plastic face and long blonde plaits? (with stripey legs I think) I loved those. Wish I still had them all, but I was scissor happy and pretty much ruined ‘em all at one point or another. Soppy child Ooh, just remembered my Amanda Jane dolly, with a bed made up of cubes that linked together, that was cool. Ahh, memories. * just realised that my Sindy and Teeny Tiny Tears were 60s dolls – Sue

Awombleforever – Hi Sue,sounds like you had a lot of dolls.I wasn’t very fortunate and waited ages to get patch so glad you mentioned her. Mentioned a few dolls on here Patch being one of them who of couse was Sindy’s little sis ,if I remember rightly. I also had a walky talky doll that I still have ,she was very precious but looks like a nightmare doll now as her eye has turned inside out ,her hair is like a bees nest and her eyelashes drawn on with biro but I still love her.She dosnt talk anymore neither

Sladegirlie – Your doll sounds like me first thing in the morning I would love to have kept one of my dolls. You are so lucky to still have one that is so precious. You are right, I did have loads of dolls ( all with various states of hair loss!). My dad used to say to my mum Don’t go buying her anymore of that plastic rubbish, and the more he said it, the more she bought me. My elder sisters say I was spoilt, but I only got them because my mum was rebelling against my dad Good ol’ mum. She was so lovely.

Slayed – Hi Sue, I had Sindy in the 60s when she first came out in September 1963 just a few days before my 6th birthday – our local Toyshop in South Wales was given just a small batch to see how well they would sell!! I had three in total by 1965!! I renewed my passion for Vintage Fashion Dolls last year and I’ve managed to get two early 60s Sindys, a Paul with rooted hair and two Patches.
I also have a Sindy Trendy Girl that was made in 1971 with another waiting in the wings for me to collect that a friend has given new hair. I have a few other Sindys from the late 70s too, including a MIB Brunette Sleeping Eyed one called Sweet Dreams – she was only made for 1 year!! The eyes frightened some girls. I also have a Tammy, a Misty, a Fleur and 4 Tressys!! I did have a Sarah Louise but swapped her with a friend. I’ve never been keen on Blythes, but I do have a Takara Jenny (she’s modern though and doesn’t look bug eyed).I guess you could say I’m a dollaholic!!

Sladegirlie – Hiya, yes you certainly are a dollaholic My poor ol dolls ended up as punks (way before punk rock came into fashion) due to my scissorhands tendancies Does anyone fancy a haircut?
