Battling Tops

Rennie – Anyone remember Battling tops? This was the best game ever in the seventies and I just so happen to have got it roflol.
So anyone want a showdown at this superfun game just let me know. Might even bring it to Butlins!!!!

Awombleforever – I never had this game ,I dont remember playing it,its a bit a scaled down version of Bay blades now I suppose?I remember the advert etc.

Hattie – I think i do my fave was mousetrap, was so cool, mind u took ages to set up

Awombleforever – mouse trap was my fave too,I loved it,still think its really cool

Hattie – Hi Womble will have to find mousetrap too for the seventies weekend can have a games afternoon too

Imp – Mouse Trap was a favourite, except when my sister’s used to spring it as soon as I’d set it all up. Operation too, I remember my eldest sister bought it for me for Christmas, it was the first year she’d been working LOL. Can also remember that I didn’t get a look in Ooooooo Look In, anyone remember that magazine?

James Blast – but, but… Battling Tops involved no more skill than, say pulling a piece of string, say… wot, you mean that was it? Crossfire, now there was a game!

Rennie – I remember that one, my brother had it and no matter how many plasters you put on your trigger finger you always got blisters on your blisters. The mousetrap game out now is not the same either, why did they change it?

Sparky – “Rennie wrote:Anyone remember Battling tops? This was the best game ever in the seventies and I just so happen to have got it roflol. So anyone want a showdown at this superfun game just let me know. Might even bring it to Butlins!!!!”

And it was all in the wrist action!

Rennie – there was so much more to it than that. Winding the top was the key. Which way is best? Clockwise or anticlockwise or even top to bottom or vice-versa.
Tactics me ol mucker that’s why I was the king of the tops. Who can name the tops?

Nix – Give me a day to track down where I hid the new version–from what I recall they seem to have all the same names (Dizzy This, Hurricane That). My son decided tossing the parts was more fun than actually playing the game, so I’ll have to figure out where its been hidden (probably right next to Kerplunk, with that game’s remaining sticks and marbles).

I started building Escape in 2005 and in it’s early form I had the pleasure of a great 70s community. Sadly with Escape’s new design we couldn’t incorporate the old threads into the new forum but so we don’t lose all those magical old chats we’ve collected them all here for you to go back and read.
