Royal Dragoon Scots Guards

This group all dressed up in the kilts and playing bagpipes made several appearances in the 1970s pop charts. The Royal Dragoon is in fact a British Calvary formed in 1971, but dating back in its original form to around 1922.

The group had their version of Amazing Grace get to No. 1 back in 1972. A gold single seller. The follow up was Little Drummer Boy in 1973. The song was originally called Carol Of The Drum and was written in 1941, and became a hit first in 1955.

The song is about a young man being called to play the drums for the Virgin Mary.
