Neil Reid

Neil Reid was a child star in the 1970s. He was born in Scotland in 1959 and was discovered by the talent TV show Opportunity Knock on Thames TV in the UK. The show had a number of performers each week, and the people at home would post a letter to the TV station marking their choice of winner. No internet or text in those days.
He performed Mother Of Mine on the show in 1971, and as he continually won the viewer’s vote he became a huge star at the age of 12. Decca signed him up and the song went to No.1 selling 250,000 single in the UK and over two and a half million worldwide. His album called Neil Reid also went to No.1 too.

When Neil’s voice broke so did his singing career. Neil now sells insurance, which is a long way away from his 1970s brief glimpse of stardom.
