Formed in 1975 by George Strawbridge, the Rowdies won their only Soccer Bowl in their inaugural season beating Portland Timbers 2-0 in the Final with ex-Chelsea man Derek Smethurst netting an impressive 18 times in this season. Future Rowdies stars included Argentina’s Oscar Fabbiani and several British cult heroes such as Rodney Marsh (pictured), Frank Worthington and Clyde Best. Growing up in the 70's you were forced to pick a football team very early on and schooldays were made up of ribbing your mates if your team beat theirs so you always picked the top teams and not necessarily the local team (Leyton Orient weren't noted for their first division presence) to avoid the abuse if your team lost.
