Celtic 1970s Johnny Doyle

Celtic 1970’s Shirt. Johnny Doyle arrived at Celtic Park as a 24-year-old, in March 1976 from Ayr United. He hailed from Viewpark,in Uddingston – the very same area of Lanarkshire where Jimmy Johnstone first pulled on a pair of football boots. He was a player who was a great favourite of the fans. Mainly because of his whole hearted style of up and down the park type play but also because when Doyle pulled on the hoops you knew you were getting 100% effort. Johnny was tragically electrocuted whilst rewiring the loft of his home in Kilmarnock on October 19 1981. He died a Hoop, aged only 30.

Growing up in the 70's you were forced to pick a football team very early on and schooldays were made up of ribbing your mates if your team beat theirs so you always picked the top teams and not necessarily the local team (Leyton Orient weren't noted for their first division presence) to avoid the abuse if your team lost.

It's with regard to these memories that I'm exceptionally pleased to tell you that we've teamed up with the UK's leading online retro football shirt merchant to bring you all the old retro football shirts our heroes used to wear whilst we watched them on the terraces or on "The Big Match" .
