Elasticated Nurse Belt

Elasticated Nurse Belt
Worn with high waisted skirts, this belt had a three clasp metal fastening. Most boyfriends were interested in the full nurse’s uniform, not just the belt! (1975). Nothing better to have the lady dressed up as a nurse! Ooh Matron!

The nurse belts dropped in via the 1960s, and were something I would always see in the Carry on Doctor Films. To my young mind, there was nothing better than seeing a wasp waist being used to promote the elasticated nurse belt. Or was it the other way around?

Mostly the belts were white and very adjustable, but they came in so many thicknesses and lengths, that you would always see the bigger ladies of the time wearing them too. The anti-roll belt was kept in position by what looked like a thick paper clip. You could pull it to make adjustments, but otherwise it was held very firmly.

The belts can still be found on specialist sites and usually include an XXX LARGE, which goes up to 60” waist. That large size really shows us that we may have put on a little weight since the 1970s, especially around the belly area. Of course for those who still can boast a waist of a mere 25” they are still available. I cannot remember the last time I had a waist of 25” That is probably more like my leg measurement now.
