£1,880 circa 1976
Three door station wagon with choice of 1300 or 1500 engines Equipped with rear window wash/wipe, disc front brakes and servo, it offers 37 per cent more cargo space, better ride and better engine access than the 1300 Countryman. Torsion bars holding the tailgate open are concealed in the roof spoiler, so the opening is unobstructed and a floor wider than the tailgate accepts bulky objects easily.
The newly-introduced Allegro Super Estates come in two types, 1300 with overhead valve engine and four-speed gearbox, and 1500 with overhead camshaft motor and five-speed gearbox. All models have transverse-front engines and front wheel drive and are also available with four speed automatic transmissions.
The squared-up shape of the three-door estates proyides an enormous load capacity when the rear seat is folded, and there is more space for soft bags in the under-floor spare wheel well. In spite of the boxey look the estate Allegros have proved to be well streamlined.
